Where did the story begin?
The source material for this play is actually three short stories by Kurt Vonnegut Jr, originally published in journals or magazines in the early 1960s and later compiled into an anthology titled Welcome to the Monkey House.
Go Back to Your Precious Wife and Son
"Go Back to Your Precious Wife and Son" first appeared in Ladies Home Journal in 1962 and was repubilished in Welcome to the Monkey House in 1968. In 1982 Vaughn McBride adapted it into a one act play.
Who Am I This Time?
This story originally appeared in the Saturday Evening Post in 1961 under the title "My Name is Everyone." It was republished under it's current title in Vonnegut's collection of short stories Welcome to the Monkey House in 1968. It was adapted for television and appeared on PBS in 1982 starring Christopher Walken and Susan Sarandon.
Long Walk to Forever
Originally appearing in Ladies Home Journal in 1960, Vonnegut's short story was later adapted into a one act play by Bryan P. Harnetiaux and a short made-for-television film starring Dennis Leary in 1987.
